Spring Polish Haul!

haul1

Hello! What spring polish collections have been catching your eye? I haven’t actually purchased any polish for awhile, and then I was out and about and saw a bunch of new collections! Here’s what I picked up.

CoverGirl has a new collection out where Katy Perry is the spokeswoman. It contains a beautiful metallic rose shade called “Being Blonde.” I also saw this really unique polish in the Sally Hansen Triple Shine collection called “Sparktacular.” It’s orange and teal micro-glitter mixed together. I definitely don’t have anything like that!

Sinful Colors has a few new displays with beautiful summer polishes! I especially loved the “Simmer Down” display. I picked up the following from Rite Aid:

Hot Chili– Metallic red with shimmer and some larger red glitters
Coral Reef– Hot coral cream with blue shimmer
Lively in Lilac– I can’t believe I got this color, but it looked unique. It’s a deep plum/blurple jelly base with orange glitter.
Mint Tropics– Yet another minty green….

China Glaze was buy two, get one free at Sally Beauty Supply, and I can never pass that up, especially when there are new GLITTERS from the Surprise! collection. I picked up two, plus one neon from previous collection:

I’m a Go Glitter– Light blue, fuchsia, and minty green glitter
Don’t Be a Flake– Black, turquoise, and pink glitter
Rose Among Thorns– Hot neon pink/coral

I definitely want to get some of the new Butter London Brights! shades too, but haven’t just yet. Which polishes have you picked up lately?

China Glaze Keep Calm, Paint On

calm11

Keep Calm, Paint On is another polish from the China Glaze Avant Garden collection. It is a light mint shade with a subtle pearl finish and pearl shimmer. The shimmer is really hard to pick up on camera, which you can see if you search this shade in Google images!

Though I have a million and one mint colors, I surprisingly do not have anything quite like this one. This seems to be a true seafoam color, and the shimmer is to die for. The formula is good too. No streaking and opaque in two coats.

I love this shade! What are your favorite mint polishes?

China Glaze Snap My Dragon

snap11

Snap My Dragon is a shade from the Avant Garden collection by China Glaze. I remember seeing this collection on a few blogs and it didn’t really catch my attention until I saw it in person at Sally’s. By then it was on super clearance and I picked up a few shades, including this one. You NEED this polish if you love pink like I do. This color is incredible!

This shade is a glowy, pink red; kind of a raspberry type shade. This is just one coat, and it dries quickly, too! This might be one of my favorite colors of the year. It is a polish I would back up for sure! I haven’t tried this with White Cap over it yet, but I’m thinking it would look amazing.

What do you think of this shade? I just love those polishes that look lit from within.

China Glaze Son of a Peach

peach11

Son of a Peach from China Glaze is from the summer Sunsational collection. It is a peachy neon, and the color is so difficult to capture on the camera! While it may look flat-out orange, it is lighter and more white-based in person. It is super bright and beautiful!

This is a much talked about polish this summer. Unfortunately, the formula is incredibly difficult to work with. It is VERY streaky and it doesn’t flow very well onto the nail. The color is so unique that it is worth the trouble. This is three coats.

Have you tried this shade? What do you think of it?

Periwinkle Comparisons

peri

After a reader comment wondering about how Sail la Vie compared to China Glaze Secret Periwinkle, I decided to do a quick comparison post about some polishes in the periwinkle family. Despite the fact that I don’t like purple, I do like periwinkle. It reminds me of lilacs and springtime!

peri2

Sail La Vie is a lot more blue than Secret Periwinkle; it’s also quite a bit brighter. These are all quite different from each other even though the swatches may seem similar. MAC Bleu Velvet has a lot more gray than the photo appears to have. OPI You’re Such a Budapest is definitely lavender over periwinkle.

As you can see, Secret Periwinkle is the darkest of the bunch. My favorite periwinkle shades are Bikini So Teeny, Cameo, and Sail La Vie, which all lean toward the blue side of the spectrum.

I hope this post is helpful to you! What is your favorite periwinkle shade?

China Glaze Dandy Lyin’ Around

dandy11

I haven’t been paying much attention to China Glaze lately. I had no interest in the “Transitions” shades or the holographic polishes. The Avant Garden collection was pretty, but I didn’t go chasing the shades by any means. Recently I was in Sally Beauty Supply and the shades from that collection were 50% off, so I ended up with quite a few that I really think are beautiful!

I know I’ve said this before, but I LOVE wearing white polish. It’s just so clean and crisp (Mom, I sound like you…with cotton!!). Dandy Lyin’ Around is a milky base with very, very fine shimmer throughout. It was hard to pick it up on camera. It is pretty sheer. I used two coats so there’s still some visible nail line, and there were no problems with the formula.

You know how when you paint your nails, and can’t stop staring at your hands because you love the polish so much? That was me with Dandy Lyin’ Around. This polish is GORGEOUS. If you love white polish like I do, check this one out for sure!

China Glaze It’s A Trapeze

trapeze11

Hello! I can’t even tell you how long I’ve been waiting to blog about this polish.  It seems like my nails were super short FOREVER. Now they’re finally growing out again and hopefully I can keep them at a decent length. The reason I say that is because this is one of those polishes where I just don’t like wearing it with short nails because it doesn’t do it justice.

It’s A Trapeze is from China Glaze’s Cirque du Soleil collection. It is a white base with multicolored rainbow glitters. There’s even white glitter in here! This is definitely the best polish out of the Cirque collection, in my humble opinion. I layered this over My Boyfriend Scales Walls, but this polish is opaque in two coats, so layering isn’t necessary.

On the nail, the glitter is very packed, and it doesn’t dry bumpy. It’s also smooth to apply for how much glitter is in the bottle; it might be a little tricky at times, but overall it wasn’t a problem.

This polish can be worn alone or layered over other colors. I’m boring and haven’t tried it over anything but white yet, but I am thinking it would be GORGEOUS over a hot pink! Speaking of hot pinks, I have a new favorite, but that’s for later! 🙂

China Glaze Kalahari Kiss

kk11

China Glaze Kalahari Kiss is from the Fall 2012 On Safari collection. I wanted to feature this on a Tuesday because I’m really into this new series on the Discovery Channel called “Africa”. If you haven’t seen it, it’s amazing! The first episode was also about the Kalahari Desert. 🙂 I’m really looking forward to relaxing and watching this tonight, because I actually got in a car accident this morning and my car might be totaled. I’m luckily fine, but someone ran a stop sign and broadsided me.

This polish is a unique color. It’s not quite yellow, not quite beige…maybe a little mix of both. The formula was a little on the thick side, but that did not affect the application. I used two coats and a top coat here. I don’t think this shade is too flattering on my dead-of-winter skin tone, but is better suited for a summer tan (at least on myself). I do love how pigmented it is and that it wasn’t streaky like so many yellow polishes are.

What do you think of this shade?

China Glaze I’m Not Lion

Good afternoon! I am so glad it’s Wednesday. This is the best day for me to take off from my job due to the way it is structured, so I have a bit of breathing room today. I painted my falsies a couple days ago and went with China Glaze I’m Not Lion from the On Safari collection. This is an amazing glitter; cool toned with holographic particles throughout. It’s hard to see the holo effect in the above shot, since that was outside with no sun (grrr to  these clouds…going on a week and a half now).

You can really see the holo effect here; it is even more prominent in person when the light hits. This glitter is opaque in just two coats! Also, it looks AMAZING layered with other glitters, but more on that in another post. 😉

Another shot of the holo, with flash. This polish is WAY prettier in person, trust me on that! The finish is very gritty, even after two thin coats of top coat. This doesn’t bother me, but if you want a perfectly smooth finish, you may have to work with it.

  • Bottoms Up – Pink with a Purple Kick (Crème)
